How to Get Off Psychiatric Drugs Safely by Jim Harper
The Road Back is a Patent Pending program, first developed in 1999 to assist individuals to taper off
medication and eliminate existing side effects a person may be experiencing from
the medication.
As of May 2008, The Road Back Program has helped over 30,000 individuals taper off their medication. The Road Back book, How to Get Off Psychiatric Drugs Safely, details the entire process and is available for free on this Web Site in entirety. You will find all chapters on the left side of the page. We have included a "printer friendly page" for all chapters as well. The link to the "printer friendly page" is located near the top left of each page. If you are taking a time release medication and are having difficulty tapering off the medication due to the large reductions, you should use chapter 14. There is no longer the need to count the little balls in the capsule. The Road Back Program handles side effects caused by benzodiazepine, anti-anxiety, anticonvulsant, sleep medication, antidepressants, anti-psychotic, and ADHD medication, allowing a person to taper off the medication virtually side effect free. Many people are not sure if they want to quit their medication, but they do need to find a way to get rid of the existing side effects. Regardless, you can use this program as well and then decide, if you really need the medication. * Many of you may feel you are the only one going through what ever you are going through. Feel free to print any or all of the text found on this site and take it to your healthcare provider. Many physicians refer their patients to us for the information we provide and the physicians simply write a new prescription for the next lower dosage of the medication when the time comes. This program is simple to use and very effective when used exactly. The nutritional supplements used in this program can be purchased directly from the manufacturer, from several retail stores and several health care providers. List is below.
If you are a healthcare provider or vitamin store using The Road Back Program, please contact us so we may list your practice or store for our site visitors.
Dr. Donald E. McAlpine, Psychiatry and Psychology,
Mayo Clinic.: "It's important to taper off slowly, extending the
taper over several weeks under your physician's direction. When you
stop too quickly, you may experience so-called "discontinuation
symptoms," which can masquerade as relapse."
